What is Optical image stabilization (OIS) ?
What is OIS (Optical Image Stabilization ? How it will help us to click beautiful photos.
When it comes to mobile technology, you hear new words every day. Especially when it comes to camera technology, it goes without saying. There are so many innovations in it and so many new technical words that people often get confused after hearing them. Megapixel, sensor, aperture, shutter speed, wide angle, macro, slow motion night mode, dual view and many other words. But if there's one word that's been heard the most lately, it's OIS and image stabilization. But do you know what OIS is? Or how this OIS works? No! So let us provide you with brief but detailed information.
What us OIS ?
While photographing, do not shake your hand even slightly because the image will be distorted. In simple technical terms, it becomes ambiguous. And in mobile photography, where pictures are clicked with the phone in hand, this complaint is highest. The arm moves more as compared to a tripod. This problem increases at night or when using zoom. In such a situation, OIS is a technology that helps you create clear and sharp images and videos even when your hand is moving. It maintains stability i.e. stability.
Now coming to OIS technology, let me talk about OIS meaning Optical Image Stabilization. This is a hardware based technology of the camera which helps in adjusting the movement by physically moving the camera when it is unwanted. You might be wondering whether the camera actually moves. Yes! In OIS, the camera has such a function that it adjusts by moving any slight shock.
How OIS makes photography great
You will get its maximum benefit during the night. As you know camera takes photos from light. At night the light is low and when clicking a picture it takes some time to catch the light and at that time the hand shakes. In such a situation, OIS helps you deliver better results by adjusting for these hand movements.
OIS consists of a small gyroscope that detects hand movement and moves the camera in the opposite direction. It has an actuator i.e. a motor that detects hand movement in real time and adjusts the camera accordingly. If your hand is accidentally dropped, the camera will stay above the subject and if your hand moves to the right, the camera will move to the left. Thus OIS makes your images and videos very stable
OIS capability is measured through plus/minus. For example one can adjust OIS 17 degrees or 20 degrees +/— stabilization. Its capacity varies according to the phone. But it can definitely be said that OIS adjusts only to small movements and not to heavy ones.
What is the difference between OIS and EIS?
As I said, OIS stands for Optical Image Stabilization which is a hardware based technology. The phone has separate components for OIS which stabilizes images and videos.
While EIS stands for Electronic Image Stabilization which is a software based technology. Phone companies try to stabilize the picture using software rather than hardware. OIS is considered the best if these two are compared. If the reason is that nowadays this technique is more discussed during photography.
